Betsy’s Semiquincentennial

Now that we’ve reached the U.S. 250th, it’s going to be a year of Betsy Ross!

This 2010 book and subsequent museum exhibition were both such joys….

And now this year, with the Semiquincentennial creating more interest in the American Revolution, I’m so pleased to have been invited to give many talks about Betsy Ross over the years to such a wide variety of organizations, but of course this year has been a hum-dinger, with talks at sites from the Travelers Across America Book Club (a fascinating and terrific program of Travelers Insurance for employees) supported by the Gilder-Lehrman Institute, to Mystic Seaport, to the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin Illinois, to Bowling Green State University, to the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, and other sites in between!

Some of this was made possible due to the exciting selection of Betsy Ross and the Making of America as a title in the National Endowment for the Arts “Big Read” program. I never seem to tire of introducing my “history best friend” to new audiences.

For a wee piece of writing I had the opportunity to do for The Conversation, look here.
